Dennis Bergkamp (if you regard him as a World Star)

dave helsdon wrote:
2) Who invented the World cup?

Jules Rimet - the man who the first World Cup was named after (a World Cup that no longer exists as it was stolen in Brazil and apparantley melted down to make gold coins out of)

dave helsdon wrote:

True

dave helsdon wrote:
4) TV commentors need to pass mountaineering tests before they are allowed to climb gantries. True or False

False

dave helsdon wrote:
5) Who is Englands record international goalscorer?

Bobby Charlton (49 goals)

False - the 1923 "White Horse" Final wasn't all ticket.

Crossbar - 1870 under Sheffield rules which replaced tape which had been introduced in 1865 to end the dispute about shots going over although 1875 was when a crossbar was demanded.

Goal nets were suggested in 1891 and were first used in a big match in the 1892 FA Cup Final and the whistle was first used in 1878 but (and the question is specific) the ref wasn't introduced until 1880 (umpires were used before then) so the "ref's whistle" was 1880.

Pickles - who later strangled himself on his lead.

False - although that depends on whether you are counting his time as a park player where Crystal Palace got him from.

Billy Wright - England's captain of the 1950s
