York City Supporters' Trust writes . . .
Following closure of the nominations deadline, four supporters have been identified for the four available Trust Board positions. Therefore, there will be no need for a postal ballot of the Trust's members. Steve Beck and Richard Snowball will, in effect, be re-elected at the time of the Trust's December AGM. From the same time, two new members will join the Trust Board - David Potter and Mike Grant.
Trust Secretary Stan Collins commented: "The mutual ownership of the City's football club provides those people who are prepared to put themselves forward with the real opportunity to help make a difference and be involved in the business of the Trust and the Club."
"York City is one of only a small handful of clubs in this country owned and controlled by its supporters. The Trust and the Club rely on the support and involvement of volunteers and the membership and role of the Trust Board is a vital aspect of that involvement."
Existing Trust Board members Mike Brown and Terry Herbert are not standing for re-election and will relinquish their positions at the time of the AGM.
The four members will join/rejoin the Trust Board for a minimum three year term and their Trust Board position could, in turn, provide the opportunity to be a director of York City Football Club itself.
Nominations for the Trust Board election and the deadline for any proposed members' resolutions for the AGM closed on 15th October. It is intended that Trust members will receive their AGM information in November. The Trust's 3rd AGM is planned for the evening of Thursday 2nd December 2004 at the Tempest Anderson Hall, York. The business of the meeting will include the confirmation of the Trust Board positions, a review of the Trust's work over the past year, a financial summary, the working relationship between the Trust and the Club and helping to deliver a brighter future for professional sport in the area.
Following the AGM, there is planned to be a Fans' Forum with representatives of the Club available to answer any questions.
The Trust is the body that owns York City Football Club and oversees the operation of the business. It is the Trust that appoints the Club's Board of Directors - who each have to be willing and able volunteers to take on the legal responsibilities of being a Company Director. It is the Directors who are then responsible for the running of the Club on a day-to-day basis.
During this year, the Trust has carried out a review of the corporate governance structures and processes at York City - known as Project Spirit - and this key area will also be addressed at the AGM. Amongst the many matters being addressed are the make-up of the Club Board and the appointment of Trust Board representatives as Club Directors; all within a framework that relies on the efforts of volunteers. Project Spirit will also address matters related to the ownership of Bootham Crescent once the deal has been legally completed. |
