Up there this weekend and wondering where THE best pubs are. Was up there a few years ago and only really got razzled round the Grassmarket area - no idea what the pubs were called! Aiming to venture North of Princes Street at some point this time, into all the little back street trendy bars (so I've heard)

Oh, and I won't be going to any seedy lap-dancing establishments, so if you could tell me where they are, I'll know where to avoid. Wink

The sleazier establishments are in what is locally known as the Pubic Triangle (between the Grassmarket and Lothian rd), so best to steer well clear Wink

To be fair, if anyone is going to know where the dirty stuff is, it's going to be him. On the other hand, he probably will show Angus the really dirty stuff.

Seriously though, it's the bars north of Princes Street that we were going to try and frequent at some point for a change, but just didn't want to stumble across one full of moustachioed men clad in leather waist coats like the ones Herman 'hangs out' in.

Area around George Street has some of the smarter bars - it's parallel to Princes Street to the north in the New Town area, which is Georgian and quite impressive. Tiger Lily is worth checking out.

I stumbled (quite literally) across Mathers Bar on a trip to Edinburgh a few years ago.

Being unused to the opening hours, we made an early start, got ratarsed, somehow won the quiz, and the next thing I remember is waking up at 5am sitting at the dining room table of the guest house we were staying in.

We went back the next night to spend the beer vouchers we'd won. Sheff U v Liverpool was on the TV and we wound up the lads at the next table by pretending to be Sheff U fans Embarassed The next thing I remember is waking up at 5am sitting at the dining room table...

Fortunately for my liver it was just a two-night stay.
