Despite the glorious F.A. Cup win during the week Norton And Stockton Ancients went down by a single goal at home to a strong Washington side. Match report to follow...

In an even first period both sides had half chances but the visiting keeper was the busier, in the secondperiod the pattern followed with the visitor having some good chances Norton struggled to find the rythym and Steve Roberts had a penalty saved after Baverstock was tripped and with three minutes remaining the visitors scored the winner. a below par performance and not good enough, Jamie Dawson added some spark after his late introduction Martin Thompson again impressed in the heart of the defence too many players having off days a draw would have been fair reward.

Stokesley S.C. 2 Norton 4

Match Report

Norton started the game brightly and took the lead after 3 minutes when defender Steven Purcifer dribbled through the home defence to score.

Stokesley replied after 20 minutes with two goals after the defence failed to clear but Norton were back on terms after 30 minutes when a head down by Steven Roberts was struck home by Marcus Laing.

After the break Norton stepped up a gear and took the lead when a Nathan Mulligan free kick was struck home by Steven Roberts. Martin Thompson converted from another Mulligan cross to seal a victory which could easily have been a lot more.

Thompson again stood out with Purcifer in the heart of defence with Mulligan providing good link up play and midfield working a lot harder.

17 Norton & Stockton Ancients 3 1 1 1 6 5 4

17th is a false position as most of the other teams have played about 3 matches more than NASA. The perils of a cup run I guess.

Get in there!

F.A. Cup.

Norton 5 Darwen 1

Match Report

In difficult conditions Norton and Stockton started well and took the lead after 13 minutes when a header from the home defence fell on the edge of the area and Graeme Baverstock shot home. Norton increased the lead when Tyson Masters finished well after 20 minutes.

After the break Norton controlled the game with Baverstock and Masters scoring again before Masters got his hat trick. Darwen scored a consolation goal late on but it was a convincing win against unbeaten oppponents and was a great all round team performance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Should we need a new striker, this fella would be worth a look.

Tyson Masters
Age - 21
Position - Att (C)
Nickname - Skippy
Notes - Australian born striker complete with Dodgy haircut, In his 3rd season at Norton. Top goal scorer last season with 34 goals and also won the Young Player of the Year last season.
Record so far this season; 6 goals in 9 matches including 1 hat-trick.

Nobody cares !

You were just the first victim of my ongoing Forum mind-control experiment where I planted a subliminal (well ... almost) suggestion in your head that it might be morally sound to go and watch the local collection of car mechanics, students and assorted losers who masquerade as your local pub team instead of City.

Anyway, one down .... Wink

Tune in next week, when I persuade Herman to torch all his Smiths albums and invest in the entire Slayer back-catalogue ! Twisted Evil

What do I do if I have both the Smiths and the entire Slayer back catalogue?

It just gets better and better.

Prudhoe Town 0 Norton 3

Match Report

Norton started the game well but could not turn the pressure into goals. Slowly the home side got on top and two good saves by Stuart Dawson kept the scores at 0-0.

After the break Norton brought on Matthew Martin and he caused some problems for the home side down the left hand side. Norton took the lead from a freekick by Jamie Dawson and quickly got a 2nd goal after good work by Tyson Masters who fed in Steven Roberts.

Man of the match Masters won the ball from a defender and scored the final goal to make it 3-0 in a convincing 2nd half display.

That's 7 goals in 7 matches for Tyson Masters. Someone tell Billy.

Are you in The Northern League Division 2? If so, how is my home town (Guisborough) doing? We used to be NL giants in the early 90's, but we've fallen well down now.

Actually, I used to go in between watching Boro...including once a 3 bus trek to mighty Seaham Red Star, which earned me a lift back from the club secretary, a supporter of the year award at the end fo the season! Razz

A work colleague of mine, Francis (Phil) Omoni used to play for Guisborough in the 80's; he also played for Scarborough.

Norton 3 Guisborough 1

Match Report

Norton started the game well and scored after only 3 minutes with a wonder goal from ex Middlesbrough youth player Nathan Mulligan who drove the ball on the volley into the top corner of the net from 35 yards with his first touch of the game.

Norton increased their lead after 5 minutes when a Gareth Murphy freekick was headed home by Steve Purcifer, in the 36 minute Norton scored a third after a flick from Steven Roberts saw Tyson Masters superbly drill the ball home from 18 yards.

After the break the visitors came more into the game without much of a threat but in the dying seconds they were awarded a dubious penalty after a tackle was made by Andrew Gibson in the penalty area.

It was an excellent result and a good overall team performance with Mulligan been named man of the match.

Any news of N.A.S.A fixture for Boxing day yet, I suspect they'll be a couple of thousand City fans clicking their heels and may fancy seeing some football over the festive period.

They're at home to Stokesley. Trouble for you lot is that it's an 11 a.m. kick off. Ooohhh my head. Laughing I'm off unless the evil NHS have me working, which isn't beyond the bounds of possibility. Crying or Very sad

South Shields 2 Norton 2

Norton had to withstand early pressure from South Shields who had a couple of early shots saved by Dawson, then a corner from Mulligan after 12 mins saw Steve Purcifer score, the home side replied after 20 mins with a header from a free kick, then after 31 mins a ball by Dawson was lobbed over the home keeper by Baverstock to make it 2-1, afetr the break slack marking let in South Shields to equalise and Norton defended well with Gareth Murphy in good form, and debutant Richie Gaston fitting in well at right back.

NASA are now 15th with 11 points, 4 games in hand and 11 points off top spot.

Norton 0 Seaham Red Star 1

Match Report

Norton started the game well and Tyson Masters had an excellent chance which was missed after 10 minutes, the visiting goalkeeper being the far busier of the two. Gradually Seaham Red Star started to cause Norton problems with the possession given away cheaply by the home side.

After the break the game was even when a corner was forced home after the home goalkeeper Stuart Dawson was impeded after 68 minutes, a far from consistent official making some questined decisions then sent Nathan Mulligan off and effectively finished the game for Norton who still created opportunities but paid for poor finishing.

The introduction of John Outhwaite made Norton much more effective also but it wasnt to be.
