York City Supporters' Trust writes...
York City is one of just a few clubs in this country that is owned and controlled by its Supporters' Trust. At York City we are working to develop an off-the-pitch structure that encourages the vibrant and effective involvement of many volunteers in the operation and survival of the Club; an off-the-pitch structure to promote and support the Club's important role in the community and, ultimately, success on-the-pitch. That cannot be achieved without the support of the Trust membership and the Trust Board elections are a very important aspect of that involvement.
There is the opportunity for every eligible member to stand for election to the Trust Board and/or to vote. When this year's election takes place (by postal ballot in November/December), Trust members will be electing four supporters to the Trust Board. In accordance with the Trust's Rules, the following Trust Board members: Kirsten Ovenden (nee Gillies), Graham Kilby and Michael Shannon - will resign their position and each of them can, if they choose, stand for re-election. David Potter has resigned from the board earlier this year due to other commitments, which creates the fourth vacancy. Every eligible member has the opportunity to stand for election (for 3 years) to the Trust Board. If you are:
- Aged over 16 years and a member of the Supporters' Trust as at 30 September 2005;
- Willing and able to attend regular Trust Board meetings;
- Willing and able to contribute constructively and positively to achieve the aims of the Trust and support the business of running York City; and
- Can get 3 other Trust members to nominate you;
...then you should consider standing for election for one of the four vacant positions.
Please do consider if you can be actively involved in leading the operations of the Trust. The Trust needs your support. The Trust could particularly benefit from contributors to fundraising efforts, communications, the treasurer role and people with general business experience. In due course, membership of the Trust Board may also provide an opportunity for you to be a director of York City Football Club itself. If you would like to discuss in more detail the role and requirements of being a Trust Board director, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
An Elections Working Group (independent of the Trust Board) is overseeing the running of the process in accordance with the Election Rules. The Election Rules are available from the Trust on request or by visiting www.ycst.org.uk. Any member wishing to propose a members' resolution for consideration at the AGM should write to the Trust Secretary and include the form and content of the resolution. Such notice should be signed by the proposer and two other members and submitted by Friday 28th October 2005. If you are considering a resolution, it will be helpful if you could contact Stan before 28th October to try and ensure that resolutions are in accordance with the Trust's Constitution.
If you want to be on the Trust Board: During the next week, all Trust Members should receive a brief letter about being able to stand for nomination/election to the Trust Board. The Nomination Form must be returned to the Election Working Group by 28th October 2005. The mailing has been prepared based on the Trust's membership database at 30th September 2005. The Nomination Form is also available on the Trust's website. If you do not receive a copy of the letter - or you know someone who has not received a copy of the letter - within the next week or so, please contact the Trust so that we are able to update our membership records. Please either email , visit the Information Desk in the Club Shop at the next match, or write to the Trust.
