City face another tough test of their credentials as promotion challengers when they travel to struggling Tamworth, at a ground where they recorded one of their most dire performances of last season.
For York City, Andy Bishop and Darren Dunning both collected slight injuries in Saturday's disappointing defeat to lowly Aldershot Town but will most likely start. Billy McEwan may decide to make changes to his side for the game at the Lamb - loanee striker Jermaine Palmer could come into the strikeforce, possibly with O'Neill dropping to the bench after a poor performance on Saturday. The City boss could also recall skipper Hotte after the Minstermen's poor discipline at the back (with more than a little assistance from the referee) allowed Aldershot to have two free kicks within range and score both times. Otherwise, the side should remain similar to that which featured in Hampshire. Whatever the team, the City boss will want to win against a side who labelled his "the easiest team we've played" last season.
For Tamworth, their only injured players are striker Julian Alsop and their key defender Richard Dryden. Alsop, who is infamous following his sacking over an alleged incident involving a banana at his former club Oxford United, would have been a handful due to his height and power, which fitted in very well with Tamworth's aerial style of football. The Lambs have several players City will be familiar with from last season's encounter and one who has played for the Minstermen this season - Mansaram. The forward, who is on loan from Halifax Town, will want to score against his old club who decided not to keep him on. However, the City defence should be used to his game from training sessions and such. His partner upfront will be veteran forward Taylor, last season's highest goalscorer, who scored the winner when the teams met last season and has scored goals for many clubs throughout his career, including Cheltenham, and West Brom where he was a favourite with their supporters. Another player who completely dominated the match between City and the Lambs last season was tall (and also very wide) centre back Redmile. City will be surely trying to play the ball along the ground against this powerful player who wins every ball in the air. Quick winger/forward Whitman, ex - Scarborough, was a constant nuisance for the likes of Davis and Groves last season and City will need to control him better this time out. The home side are very out of form having won only once against fellow strugglers Aldershot Town on the opening day of the season, so they will be wanting to test a City side who haven't won for two games.
How the Teams Line-Up
York City (Possible): Porter; Price, Hotte, McGurk, Merris; Convery, Panther, Dunning; Bishop, O'Neill, Donaldson.
Substitutes: Afandiyev, Dudgeon, Yalcin, Stewart, Palmer.
Tamworth (Possible): Dormand; Turner, Redmile, Brown, Stamps; Francis, Bampton, Ward; Whitman, Mansaram, Taylor.
Substitutes: Cooper, Heggs, Dryden, Gayle, Storer.
Form Guide (Last 5)
York City - WWWDL - Cambridge (H), Forest G (A), Altrincham (H), Dagenham (H), Aldershot (A).
Tamworth - DLDDL - Morecambe (A), Halifax (A), Grays (H), Southport (A), Woking (H)
Last season
Tamworth 1-0 City
A winning goal from Taylor was the only goalmouth action of a dull and boring game. City produced a completely awful display of long ball football and had only one effort on goal all game.
