Lucy did very well, however I'll let her tell you if she wants to.

Not that they matter for her as she has a definete place at Uni, but still she has done well.

Yep. A year I have now been out of education and things might be looking up a bit now, I am on a Swimming Pool Lifeguarding course all of next week and with several places perhaps running a Swimming Teachers course in the near future I might be able to crack on with what I want to do with my life.

Well yes Rolling Eyes

However if you did it for A-Level then you should expect to get somewhere near it or it's pointless.

Please stay out of things you don't know anything about please rob. No A-level subject is 'doss' at all. GCSE's are a piece of piss compared to A-levels, and when/if you do them you will fast realise this.

I mean the "doss" rated things such as Media studies etc.. As it happens we all did an A-Level P.E paper last year as a challenge in which on the paper I managed a B. A lot of the stuf we learn in GCSE stuff at school is also applicaple in A-level, which is probably why went end up not covering half of the stuff until the last 3 weeks!

How is Media Studies 'doss-rated'? Being just a lowly school-student, I don't see how you're in the position to comment on matters like this Amos.

If you're so good at PE, I'll be looking forward to seeing your PE grade at A-Level next year.

Heh. After reading this thread through numerous times, I've decided "Bugger A-Levels, I'm leaving skool ASAP."

On a final note: Lord Winston, erm, commiserations on your U.

No one deserves a U, I have mates who tried really hard last year and came out with grades they didn't deserve such as E's and U's.

As you seem to think they are so easy, and you are awesome at PE, it would be interesting to see how you did do, considering my mate who played for City and took PE came out with a C, when that is no where near what he deserves.

Stop winding people up on matters you know little about, it gets on peoples tits.

PE is only a tiny percentage of the sport you are actually studying, it is mainly about all the theory anatomy kind of stuff and only part training methods too. So no matter how good you are at sport you have to know the theory mostly.

it must be pretty hard to get a U, the only person who I know who ever got a U got it becuase he jsut sat there and didnt write anything all of the exams (year 6 SATS) I believe that a U is only 20% which must have meant that the coursework was virtually not handed is, I also believe these subjects are mainly coursework weighted, (Media etc..) I can see how the coursework can seriously bog you down, so much of worknig in your own time. I can understand coming out with an E as it is reasonable if you really did get bogged down but I don't understand how you can get a U and deserve much better. If you get a U you were ultimatly going to fail anyway.

I don't know about your school but at mine they use your scores and only let you do te subjects which they feel you have a high chance of actually passing. i.e It takes an average of your GCSE scores and rates them against different subjects. Ie, MEdia has a very low number whereas Law has a high one. If i was to get all C's which would be number 5 I would easily qualify for Media although not for Law.

Politics, economics and law are cop outs at A-level. They have to make them piss easy so that kids who haven't been taught/don't know anything about them beforehand can be taught from scratch.

Oh do f*ck off. Politics isn't easy at all. You have to remember a lot of factual information and be able to write clear, coherent points and good argument. I thought it was a hard subject - and i'm not thick (i got 3 As and a B at A Level Cool ). It's at least as hard as A Level History.

Subjects like History, Geography, Politics etc. aren't any harder or easier than subjects like Physics or Maths. They're just different. Subjects like Physics and Chemistry test understanding of stuff - once you've grasped the concepts, you can do really well, but that's the difficult bit. Written subjects test whether you can remember facts and also whether you can put together a good argument (and their also more interesting IMO 'cos they challenge you to think a bit more and have your own opinions).

Well I did History, Maths and Physics at A-level, and I consider myself to be much better at the maths/science based subjects, but History was far easier than the other two subjects!!

No.

I do Politics and Economics at A-Level, and they're not easy. I totally agree with YR, they're just as challenging as the other subjects.

Basicaly A-Levels are a waste of time and i think the British public should start getting good old fashioned modern apprentichips again rather than too many going to university.
If too many go to uni, where is it going to leave the likes of me, i think its time the government put tuition fee's up again and best of all start taxing students and places stop offering student discount.
If you can afford uni, you can afford to pay normal rate.

So why didn't you go to college to study for a trade instead of wasting 2 years of your life in the 6th form?
