Because I got a little confused and realised I had posted it in the wrong place. I've also been experiencing pc problems and wondered if it was just me or if others were seeing red crosses too. Frankly it's been an absolute nightmare with this wretched pc and I had hoped I'd got on top of it.
As an aside, is it not a tiny bit rude to put an semi accusatory question like you did, then lock the topic so I can not respond. I'm bemused that you took the time to be "clever", but not actually answer the perfectly reasonable and politely answered question.

Alan, I too am seeing red crosses where my image should be. Wonder if the server has gone tits up again. It happened last week and alot of posts were lost.

OK, here goes:
I asked "why start another thread here" to make it clear that starting another thread here is unnecessary. OK, my mistake: perhaps I should have said "Starting another thread in General Chat is unnecessary", but would I then have been accused of being a little Hitler?
And I didn't answer your question "where have the avatars gone" because I don't know. The question in the "Ask the Webmasters" forum will be answered I'm sure. That's the correct place for it, as it is more likely that someone who can answer the question will answer the question.
Now Alan, may I close this topic please?
